What Makes A Bad Logo? 10 Common Logo Mistakes
|
|
|---|---|
1. Complexity
When designing a logo, the goal is to produce an image that identifies your personality in a simple, appealing way.
2. Ambiguous Design
It can be a good thing when people feel compelled to study your logo and can see multiple layers in the design. What you don't want is a coffee shop logo that looks like motor oil.
3. Drop-shadows
The first lesson in Logo 101 is to make your logo clean. Drop-shadows are the opposite of clean. Also, gradients don't convert well.
4. Bitmaps
Vector art can be scaled larger without losing quality so it is a more preferable format than bitmap art.
5. Boring
Most people feel comfortable blending in, but businesses need to stand out. That's why you don't really want to go with your first idea when designing a logo.

6. Fine Lines
Fine lines look great in large formats, but easily disappear when a logo is scaled down.
7. Awkward Shape
Logos are used in ads, business cards, videos and pretty much any where they fit. When designing a logo, extreme horizontals and verticals are impossible to use in some situations.
8. Drab Colors
Washed out colors don't belong in logos, unless your image needs to say "old and worn out".
9. No Black & White Version
Did you know that red and green have almost the same hue? When an image is converted to black and white, some colors may appear as the exact same shade of gray.
10. Using Stock Photos
It's easy to spot stock photos and they lack personality and originality.
